Il Festival del Cinema di Lamezia Terme è nato nel 1999 con lo scopo di promuovere la Calabria come luogo di produzione cinematografica. La sua prima edizione si è svolta in una piccola sala cinematografica della città, ma negli anni ha cresciuto in grandiosità, diventando uno dei principali eventi cinematografici d’Italia.
Lamezia Terme, la città ospitante il festival, è un centro termale di fondamentale importanza storica e culturale per la Calabria. Fu fondata nel 1974 per unire le tre città di Lamezia, San Felice, e Sant’Eufemia, e ospita al suo interno un Museo Archeologico che racchiude reperti preistorici e greco-romani.
